Christmas holidays are the most wonderful time of year – but with all the fun comes a lot of stress! There’s the gifts to sort out, decorating the house, organising the parties and all the Christmas cooking… and suddenly, ‘time off work’ can quickly become a lot of work. If you thought you couldn’t do Christmas at home without all the added stress, we’ve got a few tips that’ll make things a lot easier.

This year, give yourself the gift of unloading the stress and bringing back the joy of Chrissy. From private catering to shopping smarter, a breezy Christmas at home is easier than it sounds.

1. Revamp the chores

We tend to do the same old Christmas chores year after year in a pattern that quickly gets boring. Nobody wants to do boring chores, and the thought of it just brings on an extra load of stress. To tackle those pesky tasks, refresh your perspective and try to do things a little differently this year.

If you hate sending Christmas cards, maybe you could invite some friends over and send all your cards together over some wine and good conversation. If cooking Christmas dinner is the part you dread most, consider bringing in Christmas catering to enjoy some tasty new food and have one less thing to worry about.

Whatever it is, think of which part of Christmas preparation you look forward to least and try to tackle it in a different way. Think outside the box!

2. Do less

Sometimes things are as simple as allowing ourselves to do a little less. A lot of us tend to find ourselves tackling the same Christmas to-do list year after year, but it may be worth stepping back and asking yourself – “what happens if I don’t do this particular task?”

In doing that, you might be able to trim your to-do list and stick to the most essential Christmas to-dos, avoiding the sense of stress and having to do things just for the sake of doing them. Is it really necessary to put every single Christmas decoration on display in the house? What will happen if you don’t attend that yearly Christmas cocktail party you always dread? Could you stick to just cleaning the main areas of the house and leave the huge clean-a-thon for after the new year?

3. Make shopping easier

One of Chrissy’s biggest stresses is tackling the shops to stock up on Christmas food, gifts, decorations, wine, and all the other festive bits and bobs. There’s nothing more stressful than spending ages trying to find parking, fighting the crowds, and waiting in long lines when you’ve already got a tonne of other things to do. This year, make Christmas shopping easier by:

  • Shopping online for gifts and groceries – Where possible, try to buy your gifts and groceries online. You can do this from the comfort of your own home (or bed), saving yourself hours of driving, shopping, parking, and queuing time;
  • Shopping smarter – If you do have to visit the shops, try going during your lunch break at work rather than on the weekends when everyone else will be there. If you have to go on the weekend, stick to first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon before the shops close. Less crowds mean less stress;
  • Stocking up on non-perishables and alcohol – You’ll likely be getting a few unscheduled visits during Christmas time, so to lessen the stress, try to stock up on non-perishable snacks and alcohol beforehand.

4. Stay out of the kitchen

Whether it’s the dinner parties in the weeks leading up to Christmas or all those events between Christmas and New Year, a lot of us spend the month of December in the kitchen prepping for guests! And there’s nothing more stressful than trying to cook up a magnificent Christmas lunch while also finding the time to socialise with loved ones.

This year, why not offload a tonne of stress and give yourself the gift of Christmas catering? You can organise Christmas catering for pre- and post-Christmas festivities as well as Christmas lunch itself, cutting your to-do list in half and giving you lots more time to spend relaxing with friends, family, and loved ones.

Christmas catering can be anything from a traditional Christmas ham or turkey – complete with all the sides, to fun grazing tables full of delicious and creative Chrissy themed treats and trinkets to bring the spirit of Christmas to life. With Christmas catering, you’re not only offloading a lot of stress and giving yourself more time to relax and enjoy the day, but also getting a taste of something different! It’s a great way to refresh Christmas at home and give yourself a break.

At Paella del Mar we have fun and flavoursome Christmas catering options that will bring something new and exciting to your traditional Christmas at home, or even office celebrations. We can either prepare the feast on-site or deliver your meals freshly cooked and ready to tuck into – even the paellas! Some ideas for a Christmas spread include:

  • A combination of glazed ham and crackling,
  • Roast chook with gravy,
  • Patatas bravas,
  • Classic Paella Barcelona filled with seafood,
  • Summer salad full of kale, quinoa & cranberry with toasted coconut, and
  • Mini puddings and mini pavlovas with berries for a sweet ending.
